SHORT CURRICULUM VITAE
Dr. Vasiliki S. Garopoulou is a Special Adapted Physical Exercise and Sport Science Educator, a Scientific Counselor in Neurorehabilitation, and a Therapeutic Medical Exercise Specialist.
She holds two postgraduate diplomas in Multiple Sclerosis from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (A.U.Th), both awarded with scholarships for excellent academic performance, as well as two postgraduate vocational training certificates from international institutions.
She was awarded a PhD with a full scholarship from the Laboratory of Developmental Medicine and Special Needs Education in collaboration with the 2nd Department of Neurology of AHEPA University General Hospital, Medical School of A.U.Th.
She completed her first postdoctoral research at the A.U.Th Medical School in the field of Neurosciences and her second postdoctoral research as a full scholarship researcher funded by the State Scholarships Foundation (IKY), with a research focus on Neurorehabilitation and Therapeutic Exercise in Multiple Sclerosis. She completed her third postdoctoral research at the A.U.Th Medical School with a research focus on neurodegenerative diseases. She has participated as a scientific associate in research programs implemented by the A.U.Th Medical School.
At the same time, she serves as a scientific collaborator at the 1st Department of Neurology of AHEPA University General Hospital and as a scientific collaborator at the Greek Association of Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders (Alzheimer Hellas).
She has presented her research work at numerous international and national scientific conferences, training seminars, academic and clinical events, and has publications in Greek and international peer-reviewed journals.
Since 2004, she has been working as a Physical Education Specialist and has served as a Special Adapted Physical Education teacher in both primary and secondary Special Education Public Schools, as well as in postgraduate vocational training programs of Public Institutes of Vocational Training (IEK).
She has contributed innovatively as Head of Scientific Planning for Rehabilitation and Exercise Programs for Persons with Disabilities at the A.U.Th University Gym, while also serving as a scientific consultant and active board member of the Greek Multiple Sclerosis Society (GMSS).
Furthermore, she has served as Scientific Education Manager at a Lifelong Learning Centre and has taught the Senior Fitness Course® as well as the Multiple Sclerosis & Exercise L1 & L2® courses.
She currently holds a teaching position in the Health and Social Services – Physiotherapy Department at IEK Delta 360, serves as an Academic Tutor for the Bachelor of Science (BSc Hons) in Sports Science and Coaching (NYC), and is an Instructor for Certified Personal Trainer (HNFC & NASM) and Chronic Health Conditions and Special Populations (HNFC & NASM) courses.
She also serves as a scientific consultant for a rehabilitation equipment company.
Finally, she has coordinated the Special Olympics Bocce and Young Athletes programs held in Thessaloniki at the Olympic Museum and served as an ambassador of the Greek Multiple Sclerosis Society to the European Multiple Sclerosis Platform (EMSP) on rehabilitation matters.
She currently serves as Scientific Co-Worker and Research Coordinator in Rehabilitation at the Hellenic Federation of Persons with Multiple Sclerosis and as Ambassador of the Hellenic Sports Federation for Persons with Disabilities (HSFPD).
